Dear Jason Cheek,

I've heard every single book of "The World" - german edition and am eagerly awaiting the releases, but they seem to be moving backwards from book to book. Will "The World 6" still appear in German on Audible? If so, how much longer can we look forward to the book?

Sincerly
Marc

Hey Marc,

Bastian should be finished with book 5's audiobook within the next week or so. Then it'll be another two weeks for audible to approve and released. As for book 7 in German, that should be out within the next two weeks, so no worries, the entire series will be coming out in German =D

Hi,
is there an release plan for "Die Welt 6 Deutsch" and after on Audible? I completed the 5th in german and I struggle a bit to continue in english from the examples. I'm pretty good in english and heard other novels like from WoW in english. But somehow I worry about the speed and accent.
Kind regards,
Jürgen

Hey Jürgen, thanks for the message. Bastian is working on it now. He just gave me the update that he hopes to have it out in April. I know, it sucks, but there's not a lot I can do about it. Once you find a good voice actor it's hard to change. Also, in my limited experience, voice actors don't keep to their schedule. Yeah, I hear you about the language barrier. My conversational German is decent but I wouldn't want to listen to my favorite audiobook in German. It would be a struggle and I'd miss a lot.

At the same, Jason Hill speaks pretty slow and it might not be as hard as you think. I'd give it a try just to see if it works for you if you're English is decent. I think you might be surprised.

Anyway, glad you're enjoying the series and I do have an email list that I do for new releases at [email protected]

Ok, you got me ;) I ordered the Number 6 and listen to it. I think I missed a few information, but I could follow the story quiet well. I ordered also the existing 7-9, so I can continue ;)
But I will also get myself the german version to understand everything.
Still good job on this so far. I normaly hear the audiobooks while driving, in english it needs much more concentration and I had often to repead sections.
Kind regard,
Jürgen
PS: If you not tried, I liked Vasily Mahanenko's "Way of the shaman" and "Galaktogon" and Richard Schwartz's "Eisraben Chroniken". Way of the Shaman is fantasy, Galaktogon is SciFi, Eisrabe is a mix of both. All are full imersive VR litrpg. Maybe it tease you as well to do SF universe as well! ;)

Hey Jürgen, I'm glad that worked so well with the English version. You almost make me want to try Eisraben Chroniken in German. I thought the book looked interesting but there's no English version to the story. I generally like Vasily Mahanenko's stuff and The Way of the Shaman was the second gamelit book I read after Play to Win. I also enjoyed Galaktogon.

I figured with how the story is written in regular conversational English the audio versions would work so super cool. Glad that worked out and don't forget, starting with book 5 there is a Post Credit scene at the end of every story =D

You'll have to let me know what all you think of the series and the characters =D and don't forget there is a Character List and a Map on the blog site.

Hi,
the problem in LitRPG as in normal RPG, the main character raising his power to unlimited. Like in Richard Schwartz Askir novels where the main charakter ends up to be a god. A charakter can loose his equitment but not the skills. So the skills of the enemies raise as well to be match or it gets boring. A maximum skill point limit would help, so that you have to drop skills, to get new ones and it not creates omnipotent characters (the same goes for passive skills). This problem had Vasily in all his books!

Hello Jürgen and Jason,

I have a similar view as you. I've been following the chat for a long time, but i believe that Vasily had an almost worse problem. As far as I remember, his main character could buy everything from the glorious guilds at some point. To be honest, I stopped listening carefully, so I may have missed a few things but for me he felt like a pretty weak character himself. But i really like Jason's and Valily's books a lot, thats why i listen a lot to both of them.

In "The True Enemy Revealed" it seems to me that only battle scenes are described in detail, at least that's how I remember it. I was really looking forward to new "adult" scenes, to be honest, as they are very well described and so far unique or "untouchable", hihi pun, in this genre. Maybe I should listen to it again in peace to discover new clues.

I think Jürgen is right that an omnipotent character quickly becomes boring. maybe you can share the strengths in a team, which of course also allows you to try out new character mixes and not have to rely on the established ones. For me, the "red mage" (oh my god I hope I got the term right) was a cool new class. However, if you mix mages and warriors, I remember how they joked about the main character because he can do everything but isn't perfect at anything, you could crystallize the weaknesses more.

Rough examples (really just rough):

A tank can withstand a lot, but does little damage.

A warrior can endure a medium amount, but does only a medium amount of damage.

An assassin can withstand nothing, but does enormous damage.

A magician can also withstand little, but does good damage and area damage.

What I'm getting at is what if you combine a warrior and a mage?
A combination of medium endurance, medium damage, low endurance, and good damage.

Basically, I would see an off-tank at best, because it's the main character, that can take medium damage, put out a variation of medium damage, and medium area of effect damage.

What's your opinion? (Sorry the text is so long.)

Hey Jürgen,

This is a good point and I'm trying to keep an eye out for this balance. The main thing is that, this is a game and anyone can match what Star is doing. I'll have some top level players do this, but most players are too lazy to put that extra focus and training into mastering multiple skill and magic trees. So, this will help to a point with the power curve.

Also, I'll make sure to make monsters, dungeons, and enemies that match Star's level or can kill him. Additionally, Star has a limited mana pool and how many spells he can use at one time in comparison to another within the combat period which is why his breath of attacks are limited.

Just my thoughts on this.

Hi Jason,
I like the universe and the stories about Star and his friends. (I'm currently on book 7). The idea with a limit of total skill points was just the experience with other fantasy and LitRPG series. The example with a limit is from '97 in Ultima Online. You could get up to 700 points and thus bring 7 skill trees to 100% or gradation of it to activate more skill trees. I had the rogue with magic, stealth and taming skills. In addition, I had incognito ability that suppressed my name. I did play in RPG there an male darkelve and head of mercanery tribe. There were no races in UO at that time, and everything was in aggrement between the factions we defined.

Later in Dark Age of Camelot the classes were not so free in design and Warcraft was the same. But the PvP in Ultima Online was incomparable. You could choose to be a PK, but with each kill of a non-PK, the time got longer that you were flagged with red lettering, couldn't enter the normal towns, and was a legal target for any normal player with bounty. At that time there were no guilds and thus not such a Zusammenrottung as it is also the case in the world. In Warcraft, there were the attacks on the leaders and cities of the other alliance, and I loved the open PvP outside the arenas or war zones.

So the description of PvP in the world reminds me of my earlier days, and I think the development of the NPC AI is terrific. It really makes you rethink your playstyle in today's games like ESO, where I'm back to being a stealthy archer with pet class, assassin and thief.

I wish we were already further along in technology and there would be a fullimersive RPG. But the technology has just arrived at unbound 3D glasses (quest) with controllers.

I'm over 50 and probably won't be around to see this reality. But should such "eggs" come on the market in 10-15 years, I would also be one of the first to get it and probably make a nightmare start.

In short, keep up the good work!

Thanks, Jürgen,

Just a quick fyi, there are post credit scenes in every book starting at 5.

I unfortunately never played Ultima Online but I find it super cool that there was an Incognito spell. Something like you just pointed out from your time playing comes up in book 12 =D

Yeah, I struggle with the PKing open-world concept so that PKers can't destroy the world or make it unplayable. It is a thing that happens in most open-worlds and I'm trying to find that balance. We might see the increased "open to PVP" flag being increased in time.

Well, I'm an old school gamer so that makes sense while it feels more like old school games that were more free for players to make their own decisions on how they handle bad players.

Yeah, I love the idea of a fullimersive RPG if the world was done right and realistic. I know some fans judge me harshly for the high-level of realistic pain for Nightmare players, but I know myself and a number of hardcore players would do this for a hero class.

I hear you, I'm around the same age ;) Thanks for letting me know you're enjoying the story so much.

Arthemes, here's my response to Jürgen that covers some of your points:

______________________________________

I do let Star push some of the lower level classes around in Book 12. This will change in book 13 when they're equal or higher level. There's a big action story there so we'll see Star slightly behind the eight ball there. In Haldale, that's the reverse.

Star, for all intents and purposes, has the "Red Mage" playing style. He is not the best mage, not the best class quest, nor is he the best melee fighter. His breath of abilities allows him to survive and outplay others due to that same flexibility. which makes the fights interesting. He'll also meet some flexible enemies too ;)

I do want to bring in some more sex scenes but the overarching story is not about Star's sexual conquests. It's part of the story because I think when it comes to sex and sexual situations, we all have those to an extent. I try to have Star's story reflect that. So, we'll be seeing more stuff with Miya, Fylreh, and others in a way that I think everyone will enjoy. Also, there's the growing Helgath part building =D Patreon has some very nice fan art about how she's looking!!

Good morning Jason,

I didn't expect an answer so quickly. 🙂 I think it's great that you include some top level players because I was never sure, if authors, who write litrpg novels, also play games themselves or just make up stories and they try to wrap them in a game coat.

I also like that Star can't cast infinite spells and you make sure he doesn't overtax his mana pool.

I think the relationship between the sex scenes and the story is great. It's good that it doesn't degenerate and that the sex scenes are a rarity. Butbi still like them a lot. 😁

The fight scenes are also very detailed, so that at times I tend to duck away while listening. which without any context for people in the tram certainly looked pretty funny at one time or another.
