The German version of The World Series (DIE WELT) is in the Process of Being Released

I’m happy to announce that I’ve finally found a true translator and a good writer in their own merit to translate The World Series. Frank Dietz has done an excellent job in translating the series and the response from the German fans of Litrpg/Gamelit has been awesome. While the series has been out in English, reading a deeply complex series like The World isn’t easy in a language that’s not your mother’s tongue. It’s especially cool because that’s where I’m living. Another interesting aspect to German readers is that many prefer paperback books over eBooks. I’ve never sold so many paperback novels in my life. There’s just something about having so many of my paperback books out that’s thrilling to me.

So far, book 1 & 2 has been released. Book 3 is in the process of being translated and the rest of the series will be coming out slowly as I get the funds available for each preceding book in the series. Book 4 will be as expensive as getting nearly all three first books out due to its huge size. Also, at the same time the audio books will be being released shortly after.

On an interesting sidenote, Bastian Scheibe (https://www.bastianscheibe.de/) is the voice actor doing the German-version of the series. You’ll have to check out his website, he’s an actor that’s been in several movies and is looking to add to his portfolio with audiobooks due to everything that’s been going on with COVID.

Like Jason Hill, Anja once again chose his voice. I have to agree with her that he’s pretty awesome. I’m hoping that together we’ll kickstart The World series on the German-side of Audible =D and that it will help him promote his own career like it did for Jason Hill.

Hey I just read all three German books in like 3 weeks. Now I am thinking about switching to English to keep going.
All the books are amazing and are exactly my style.

Thanks for the support man. Love to hear you're enjoying the series so much. The good point with the English in the books is that it's mostly conversational which makes it easier to read. Still, the stories are very complex. I know several people are reading the English books while they are waiting for the German translations. I know for me, the audio books in German is something I can mostly follow, but there's no way I could read the straight German translation.

Thanks for the answer.

I will most likely go for English if you say it will take say while. And as there are more English books of the series I think it's worth trying.
I've read English books before, but German is easier and faster for me.
I appreciate the audio books although I don't know if this genre is suitable for me as an audiobook due to start table etc., I will stay with reading.
I will follow this blog, I only go once a year to Facebook.

Deine Geschichte " Die Welt" ist einfach nur genial. Ich habe jedes Buch innerhalb einer Nacht durchgelesen und mir auch noch jedes Hörbuch geholt. Auch ihn empfinde ich als sehr gute Besetzung. Seine Stimme passt für mich zu dem Charakter. Er liest nur etwas schnell so das man extrem konzentriert zu hören muss ;-)

Ich bin zu einem großen Fan von dir geworden und warte sehnsüchtig auf die nächsten Übersetzungen. Deine Geschichten erwecken bei mir den Wunsch doch nochmal richtig Englisch zu lernen zu m weiter lesen zu können. :-)

Hey Björn,

Thank you for letting me know you're loving the stories. The adventures are based on my own gaming times, LAN, and MMO friends with many of my dreams to build the adventures that I write. It's awesome to hear that people love my stories and I appreciate the support. My wife picked out Bastian and I thought his voice worked good to reflect Star's mental dialog and the adventure of the story. With each book, he just gets better and better.

I wish I could get the books out quicker in German and am doing the best I can, but I can understand wanting to read the adventure in their native tongue. Though, I think Frank does a pretty good job from what I hear. Also, if you don't mind, please leave a positive review for the books. There's always a few bad actors wanting to block the series and a new voice actor like Bastian.

Wow! Einfach nur Wow! Ich habe die ersten 3 Bücher innerhalb eines Tages gelesen weil sie so fantastisch waren. Selten hat mich eine Buchreihe so fasziniert. Von 2006 bis 2017 habe ich selbst World of Warcraft gespielt und Dank deiner Geschichte war ich sofort wieder mitten drin :) danke für das Abholen aus der Realität und das Entführen in die fantastische WELT. Mein Englisch ist nicht das Beste, deswegen fällt es mir etwas schwer dem 4ten Band zu folgen. Warte deswegen mit großer Vorfreude auf die Weiterführung in Deutsch :)

Hey Verena,

Thanks letting me know you're loving the series. Book 4 is going to be crazy and it should be out soon. Well ... maybe a month and a half soon but soon nonetheless =D

I did open beta with a group that I'd moved over from Anarchy Online and then played for probably twelve years straight nearly living inside the game. I had a guild with 500 plus players and an alliance with four other guilds that totaled nearly 3k players. Together, I was the main tank and guild leader that lead the end game raids that set us second on the alliance-side of the server. So, many of these stories are from my times playing with my friends.

Ja man liest es heraus, dass vieles auf deiner Erfahrung basiert :) deswegen ist die Geschichte so unglaublich authentisch und zieht einen als ehemalige Zockerin in den Bann. Ich habe in einer kleinen aber sehr sehr guten Gilde gespielt. Wir waren bei uns auf dem Server am Ende auch unter den Top 3 ;)

Yeah, I think that's the difference with the writing in my series. It's from a true top-level gamer's perspective. I can't read gamelit novels where the writer has never gamed. It's obvious in every aspect of the story. You'll have to let me know what you think of book 4 once it comes out.

Okay, back to writing book 9 =D The vacation back to Florida set me back a month.

Thanks Björn, that's the only way I'll be able to afford getting the translations out for the rest of the books in the series =D It'll be interesting when both English and German versions are caught up. The only sad part is that the translation will take a little longer but with my current writing speed, hopefully that'll take a few years to happen, Please let me know what you think about the crazy story in book 4 =D I can't wait to see what everyone thinks of the story.

Mein Lieber Jason,

wie versprochen möchte ich dir Feedback zu deinem vierten Buch geben. Leider habe ich erst 6 Tage nach Erscheinen per Zufall mitbekommen das nun dein viertes Buch auf Deutsch zu haben ist. Und obwohl es schon fast Mitternacht war habe ich es natürlich direkt gekauft und erst Mal trotz Arbeit bis morgens um 6 Uhr gelesen.
Dein Buch hat mich wieder sehr gefesselt. Wie der Protagonist immer mehr emotional und körperlich leidend in die WELT gezogen wird.
Die Interaktionen mit allen Rassen, sowie das nur die Taten zählen und und nicht die Herkunft spricht mich sehr an.
Ich bin total fasziniert wie du die Beziehung zu einer Zentauren aufgebaut hast. Damit hätte ich nie gerechnet. Bin sehr gespannt wie sich das weiter entwickelt und wie das dann Mal mit Miya weiter geht. Auch die Halb-Orc Schamanin finde ich hoch interessant und eine guten weiteren Aspekt in der Handlung.
Ich bin also nach wie vor faziniert und warte sehnsüchtig auf die nächsten Teile.
Selbstverständlich habe ich dir wieder eine 5 Sterne Bewertung hinterlassen.

Hey Björn,

Thank you for the feedback and I'm so happy to hear you're enjoying the series. Book 4 is my personal favorite of the series, even if the proceeding books are written better. The adventures in book 4 are just crazy and innovative like nothing I've ever read anywhere else. It also introduces many great characters as the world is extended in depth and complexity. Without suffering how can one appreciate the wonders in life? Without understanding evil or how bad things can get, how then can you recognize and appreciate the good and wonderful things in life? I like to explore those concepts in The World. It's a big underlining subplot in all of my stories.

Fylreh and Helgath are quite interesting characters. They were also both pure accidents. Funny how that works out. With Fylreh, I'm running it somewhat like the movie, Something About Mary. The back and forth the two of them go through is quite entertaining even if it's not a major plot line in the story. Helgath really comes into her own in the proceeding books. I think you'll really going to like how it all goes. Miya is not forgotten either and we'll be seeing more there too ;)

Hey Jason, I got myself the three available audiobooks of this series in german and geez I can't wait for the next one. While not having that much time for gaming anymore, I can really relate to Ironwolfs troubles. The way you "wordpainted" (yes, we germans can do that with words muahaha) your story is just as exciting and thrilling as I could wish for - cudos to Frank Dietz and Bastian Scheibe as well for an amazing job.
Unfortunately I'm far better at reading english than at understanding by ear (not enough practice...) and The World is just too big for my limited capacity, so to say. Which leaves me eagerly waiting for the fourth audioversion.

I've talked with Bastian about a new translator I'm going to be using. His name is Michael too. Hopefully, this works out well so the series can be released a lot quicker. Bastian said he's good, but it's always nervous about changing what's working. You'll have to let me know what you think when book 5 comes out.

Hey Jason,
I commented above after finishing the forest three books.
Now I am half way through book 4.

I like the story, the setting and the pace. It fells a bit more like a fantasy story than a PC game because of the reduced rpg segments, this is fine though.

The fights are intense and a lot of boss fights with some nice twists.

On the negative side I must say half of the book is soft porn. I mean a lottöe bit of gamer cliche is fine to form characters. But in book 4 this escalates.
From a language point of view the German wording in the sex scenes is not chosen very well. It is very "basic" like real cheap porn. In my eyes a more discreet indirect approach with a lot of Allusions would fit better to the style of the books.

(In the forest books this was very well done and the one scene on book three was kind of a break in style.)

Regarding audio books I prefere other speakers but this is fine.

Please don't take this "negative" Feedback to hard. It should be constrictive and is only my Personal opinion.

Nonetheless I am looking forward to the second half of book 4 and all the upcoming books.

Hey Mo,

Thank you for messaging me about book 4. I purposefully removed the uneeded listing of stats within the pages like the repeated listing of character sheets and gear sheets, changing it to only list what changed. I did this purposefully because I dislike the "filler" that many authors use to simply give them more pages per book. These stat blocks of repeated information is not enjoyable to me as a reader and so I listed the entire sheets in the appendix. At the same time, all of the quests blocks and other such "gamer" information is still present. Personally, I prefer this method and have heard the same from most of my fan base. Nonetheless, I would still argue the story is told froma gamer's perspective in a very ISAKAI/GAMELIT style. As long as you're enjoying it is really all that matters =D

Also, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the action scenes. I thought much of it was very well thought out and was full of feints and surprises that made the battles that much more exciting. Also, how Star chooses to resolve the conflicts adds a lot of interesting growth posibilities with the story.

As to your negatives, I would disagree that half of the book is on the soft porn side. Star only has sex once in the book and it's so short that you could blink your eye and miss the part with Keela. There was very little detail of the overall sexual act. Lastly, it turns into a very bad sexual experience, which I found very humerous, and is a play on how in most books put the MC as the best and most desired person by everyone.

The next parts with Fylreh are very short. The drunken morning wake up is basically nothing of note. The drunkeness the night before is not intimant in any way. There is no intimacy or anything that you can point to actually happening. Only that they wake up in an odd position with one another.

Later on in the story, the "heavy petting" bathing scene is again very short and nothing more happens there than some kissing and touching which is quickly cut short. After that, there are no other romantic or sexcual situations for the entire story.

For an 800 or so paged book, that's not half the story being soft porn. I doubt these parts even take up a total of twenty pages. Also, I would argue that those scenes, besides being very short, can simply be skipped and are not even majorily relevent to the story itself for those that aren't interested in that type of thing.

Otherwise, the rest of the book's focus in on adventuring, traveling, exploration, and fighting. Though, at times, I do address a number of harsh topics that I think are relevant to the horrors that would naturally occur in a medieval magical fantasy world. I use that realism to show people how much harsher the world used to be compared to our current civilization and time period. So many people tend to not realize the everyday horrors that many people faced on a daily basis and, I personally belive, is an important part of the social commentary that I like to discuss.

On the plus side, books 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 have none of that stuff within their pages. The situation that our characters are dealing with doesn't apply, for the most part, to such romantic issues. There are some relationship stresses between Fylreh and Star, but they are very minor. Also, after the horrors that Star saw in book 4, he changed in a lot of ways in how he looks at The World and reacts to the various pretty ladies that he meets.

That doesn't mean there's not horror and ugly stuff in the proceeding books. It is there on a different level than in book 2, 3, or 4. Though, I would argue still appropriate for the game and the situations that occur within the story arcs.

Now that doesn't mean that there won't be future sexual situations, because ... there will be. I can say that those parts will never be the focus of any of my stories. They are added in as spice and depth for the characters that hopefully reflect real-life to a point.

Though, in truth, I would privately argue that in a real FIVR game would have a lot more blatant sexual situations and even virtual whore houses. Nonetheless, that is not the story that I want to tell which is why it is only a small part of my books.

At the same time, I'm not a fan of the various anime, light novels, and litrpg/gamelit books that dipict men as being uninterested in sexual situations even if a beautiful woman throws themselves at the said man. I really dislike these types of stories and do not think they reflect "real life" or people's "natural reactions" well. I personally want a little romance or sexual tension, to a limited extent, in the stories I read. Hence, why I write the way I do.

Hopefully, all of this reply came out the way that I intended it. It's hard to know emotions or inflections when putting them down on virtual paper =D

Also, as I've been working on getting book 5 translated with a new set of translators, I'm discovering that not everything was translated in the way that I wrote it

Hey Björn,

The good news is that the series is still being done in German. I plan to keep both the English and the German versions going. But to do this, it took some work.

Book 5 has been translated, but there was some struggles with getting the translation where I wanted it to be. The current translator was too expensive and, if I am going to continue to keep the books coming out, I needed to find someone new. That also meant, making sure the books were edited properly too. It's been quite the trial and error but I think I've got something that will work. But, just to be sure, I need the final product to be in as good of shape as possible so everyone is happy with the new translator. Currently, book 5 should be releasing around the middle of this month.

As for book 4's audible, that's waiting on Bastian. This is the first time he's ever completed an audiobook this large before and it has taken him an immense amount of time and work. He's slowly getting better, so I hope this will get better and better as times goes on. He's down to the last two parts and once I get the final product, I'll upload everything and it'll be another 14 days if everything works fine on the audible side. So ... we are probably looking at the end of this month.

I hope that explains everything and sorry for the wait but I only have so much control on the audiobook people meeting their deadlines :(

Buch 5 war dar Hammer, vielen Dank dafür. Ich musste mich zwingen zwischendurch Pause zwischen durch Pause zu machen um noch 2-3 Stunden Schlaf für die Arbeit zu bekommen. :-)

Dein Vorwort hat mich sehr betrübt und ich möchte dir danken das du wie Star nicht aufgibts und weiter gekämpft hast.

Das neue Hörbuch habe auch schon durch und freue mich sehr auf die nächsten Bücher und Hörbucher.

I'm glad you're enjoying the series. Book 4 is my personal favorite due to all of the unique adventures, but book 5 is pretty damn awesome =D In truth, the books just get better and better from what everyone says, so expect an amazing ride with the series.

Book 5 also starts a series of big battles that won't slow down until book 11. Even then, there's the coming Hobgoblin invasion but Star will have a slight break from that due to his decisions in book 10. Heh, and I have so much more left to write. I'm just so thrilled everyone is loving the series.

Thanks for the kind words about the shit I've endured from the established authors that try to block new writers from entering the litrpg/gamelit genre. Thankfully, the community came to my defense and that support has allowed me to go full-time writing. Nonetheless, those jealous authors never give up, never stop attacking my books as soon as they come out. I dared to stand up to them. I dared to bring their shitty games to light and they'll never forgive me for that. The best way to fight those asshats is to leave good reviews for the authors you enjoy. Do it for every book and they won't be able to shut down the competition no matter how hard they try.

Everything that went down is why I am so thankful for everyone's support. Without your support and others, book 4 and the rest of the series would have never been written. So, thank you.

I especially read the info on book 5 because of your last comment.

Hey Mo, no problem if I'm after a series you're currently enjoying. It has been harder and harder for me to find a series I enjoy. Most seem to stop after 3 or 4 books which is annoying as hell and why The World will be going to long.

The controversy was pretty huge back in 2018 when I released the first three books. Even now, the group of 30 to 40 authors who work together like a Syndicate Guild control many of the LitRPG and GameLit groups on Facebook. It's how they promote their group and censor authors that aren't part of them. Many of the old controversy is even on my personal blog as I went through the confusion of trying to understand what was going on when it all first went down. Dave, Ramon, Luke, and admin named Adam, they seem to be the ring leaders and attack me whenever they can. Ramon even has a podcast that he uses to slam competing authors and promote their group. The easiest way to see what I mean, mention that you enjoy my book in the main English speaking LitRPG / Gamelit facebook groups and you'll be shouted down for saying anything positive about the books.

Fans tell me that they just ignore the stupidity and private message between friends about the series. Most know the deal but enjoy having the community that the group of authors have started. Luckily, over the years, they can't so easily bash me because the story has gotten out so much and people know the truth. As I've always said to the group when they'd send me nasty or threatening messages that I would do my best to make sure the truth came out. Truth has a funny way of doing that.

Its not easy going after these asshats. I've moved to just ignoring them. I don't hide announcing my releases of new books anymore because I know any released book will get a bad wave of negative reviews from these authors. I have enough fans leaving actual reviews that they can't hurt me too bad. So, instead of a 4.9 rating, I have a 4.4 or 4.5 rating on my books. If they every stop attacking me for a few months, it goes back up to 4.7 in a flash =D

My best revenge is writing the best books that I can and having my fans love reading them. Hitting the top of the charts is the perfect "fuck you" that I could ever give them. And like I said to Björn, the best way fans can fight this group is to leave a review for every book they enjoy reading. These fake accounts that they use to bash the competition can't do much if true fans are leaving their reviews.

Anyway, that's my thoughts on this and I try not to waste time thinking about it too much. I feel like if I do that, it's letting them win. While they try to shut down the competition and take that time away from writing, I'm getting my next book out.

Also, due to understanding that Amazon has a page limit for self-published books, I'll be releasing shorter books in the 450 to 600 range hopefully every 3 months or so =D Just another "fuck you" to those asshats and a thank you to my fans for all the support.

Great Job!
My last Feedback of book 4 was quite hard, but book 5 ist just great.
Good plot, I like the chapter with different point of views.
All in all really good!

Some minor translation mistakes but nothing big.

I'm glad you're liking book 5. Most of the series is like that. There's a few funny things that come up but no heavy petting. I fear at times that the translators don't translate the scenes well and it's so important how they're written so they don't sound like soft porn. Like I said, these aren't very common in the series.

Entschuldige die späte Antwort. Durch die neue Arbeit fallen ich Abends nur noch ins Bett :-)
Natürlich habe ich Buch 6 wieder verschlungen. Und bin sehr gespannt wie es mit Zeven weiter geht. Interessanter Charakter.
Irretiert bin ich momentan sehr von Domenic. Da ich denke nach all den Jahren musste er seine Kumpels doch gut genug kennen.
Erst dachte ich das ist ein abgesprochenes Verhalten um irgendwenn in die Irre zu führen.
Bin gespannt wie es weiter geht.
Ich hoffe Buch 7 kommt bald raus.
Wie ist eigentlich der Stand bei den Hörbüchern? Seit März gibt es da ja keine Bewegung mehr?

Hey Björn,

I'm glad you're enjoying the story. Even good friends have bad days or pull off some bullshit with one another. Domenic and I are the same. Book 7 will help to clear some of that up. Also, no matter how cool he likes to play it off, he's been being hammered since day one so you know he's stressed.

I'm hoping book 7 will be out in a month. Erik is almost finished and I'll send it to the editor next. The audiobook is a different story and there's only so much I can do there. I have my fingers crossed that Bastian is able to get the next story out in a reasonable timeframe but he has other jobs that pays the bills. The lack of keeping to the planned schedule seems to be a normal thing with voice actors. =D

Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the adventure. It only gets better. Book 7 is awesome.

Hey Jason,
Took me a while to finish book 6.

To make it short, this is a very good book!
Well balanced scenes and overall plot. Plot twists and the social tensions between the real life friends.
Well done!
I enjoyed the side stories at the end and I am curious how they match with the main storyline once they meet (if at all;-) )

Keep up your work, I appreciate it very much.

I will check if book 7 is already released in German.

I just sent book 7 to the editor so I hope we'll see it at the end of the month.

I'm glad you enjoyed book 6. I know the cliffhanger at the end of book 6 was a pain in the ass but it comes across well in the story. Book 7 is a lot of fun and you're gonna laugh your ass off =D I think you'll like how all of the different parts come together.

welche Probleme genau hast du denn mit der Veröffentlichung der Bücher? Nur in der deutschen Übersetzung, oder auch im Englischen?
Konnte dazu keine weiteren Informationen finden.

Deine Bücher sind Klasse. Und eine bessere Übersetzung ins deutschsprachige habe ich in dem Genre auch noch nicht gesehen.
Ich lese viel LitRPG. Auf Deutsch gibt es keine bessere Serie. Weil gut übersetzt, aber vor allem wegen deiner guten Story.

Bei allen anderen Publishers stolpert man auf nahezu jeder Seite auf Übersetzungsfehlern und Unstimmigkeiten, die einem schnell den Spaß verderben.

Weiter so :)
Sag den Übersetzern sie sollen schneller machen ;)

Hey Imhotep,

It's a lot of work to self-publish any book. The German books have been more of a challenge. The market is much smaller and the costs of translating, editing, and producing is much steeper. Translators are, by default, very expensive and finding a translator that does a decent job, understands gaming, follows the actual story arc, translates well into German so it sounds like a native speaker, and has a reasonable price for the going market. I've struggled with all of these issues.

I've been slowly working with fans of the series and gamers/students to improve the process. Partly, I've been improving the process and making it more affordable, which is sadly important in today's day and time.

My goal has always been to get a decent to good translation. That might sound odd, but I've given up a perfect translation. It's not a possible goal and if it was, it would be way to expensive to achieve. One of the points to writing is being able to make a living from it, besides wanting to share your story with others.

I've luckily managed to meet good people to help the translation and editing process along. It partly helps that I speak German and have native German speakers that I can run the translations by to see if it's decent or not. I've been too many "translators" charging huge fees for mediocre work. Without my own limited abilities and friends, getting the series translated properly would have been much more difficult.

For the future, I have a slight change coming with translators for book 8 that I hope makes the series better or, at least, keeps it as good as it currently is. I'll be going with Kai who has been editing and correcting the series since book 5. A change that will allow me to continue releasing the series in German.

Anyway, thank you for the feedback. Making the process more affordable is what speeds the process up, since I can't afford to start the next book unless I can reduce the up front cost of the translation and editing.

I like your serie. At the moment I'm on Audible World 5 (german), as I hear it in the car and sometimes at work. To bad 6 and 7 are not done yet as the written books, but I will wait ;) (I have to!). You choose well for translation and german audio.

Hallo Jason,

ich hoffe dir geht es soweit gut. Ich bin nach wie vor ein großer Fan der Welt und sehe täglich nach ob Buch 11 in Deutsch erschienen ist ;-). Es freut mich auch sehr das endlich das neue Hörbuch raus gekommen ist.
Ich hatte gehofft ob du mir evtl. 2 Fragen beantworten würdest.
1) hast du evtl. Einen Zeitplan wann Buch 11 erscheint?
2) Gibt es evtl. einen Newsfeed um über Neuerscheinungen direkt informiert zu werden?
Leider sehe ich das manchmal erst Tage später :-)
